CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL MOUNTAIN DAY 2025

The PG and Research Department of Botany, KAHM Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, in association with the Biodiversity Club, celebrated ‘International Mountain Day’ on 12 December 2025 at 2:00 PM in Aryabhata Hall. The programme aimed to highlight the significance of mountains and to create awareness among the students of B.Sc. and M.Sc. Botany about the cultural and ecological value of mountain ecosystems.
The event featured an insightful talk by the resource person, Dr. Gouthami V, Assistant Professor (Adhoc), Department of Botany, Sree Krishna College, Guruvayur. She delivered a lecture on the theme “Mountains and Indigenous Communities: A Bond of Culture and Survival”. In her presentation, Dr. Gouthami V. discussed various mountain communities, their unique cultural practices, traditional ecological knowledge and the intimate connection they share with mountain landscapes. She also emphasized the urgent need for conserving natural resources and highlighted how the survival of indigenous communities is deeply intertwined with mountain ecosystems.
The programme began with a warm welcome address by Dr. Deepa P., Assistant Professor (Adhoc), who also introduced the guest and briefly explained the significance of celebrating International Mountain Day 2025. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Devi Krishna M., Sixth Semester B.Sc. Botany. The event effectively coordinated by Dr. Deepa P., Surya E.V. and Amal Shah (Sixth Semester B.Sc. Botany). The celebration successfully imparted awareness about the cultural, ecological and conservation importance of mountains, reinforcing the integral role they play in biodiversity and human life.
