‘Kalhaara’ – Onam Celebration 2026 Held at KAHM Unity Women’s College
KAHM Unity Women’s College (Autonomous), Manjeri, celebrated ‘Kalhaara’ – Onam Celebration 2026 with great enthusiasm and festive spirit on Friday, 21 August 2026. The celebration featured a variety of cultural, traditional and outdoor activities that brought students and staff together in the spirit of joy, unity and togetherness.
The celebration began with the Inaugural Session from 9.45 am to 10.30 am at the College Auditorium. The programme opened with an Onappattu by Meenakshi, followed by the welcome address by Rahmida T., General Secretary, Haya Students’ Union. Ms. Fathimathul Busthana, Vice Chairperson, Haya Students’ Union, delivered the presidential address. The programme was formally inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Muhammed Basheer Ummathur, Principal.
Dr. V. Hikmathulla V., Fine Arts Director and Head of the Department of Malayalam, delivered the Onam message, highlighting the cultural significance of Onam and its values of harmony, sharing and togetherness.
The inaugural session also included a felicitation ceremony honouring Dr. Jyothi P., ( Staff Advisor ) Dr. N. V. Fathimathu Zuhara, ( Coordinator,IQAC)Jaseena C., ( Director , Fine Arts ) Dr. Haris U.(Secretary, Staff Club ) and Mr. Yunus T. ( Secretary, NTS) Binshida, Fine Arts Secretary, proposed the vote of thanks.
Following the inaugural session, the campus came alive with Chenda Melam and various outdoor events from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm. This was followed by Onam Sadhya organised by the respective departments, adding to the festive spirit of the celebration.
The celebrations resumed at 2.00 pm with various stage events at the College Auditorium, where students showcased their artistic talents. The programme concluded with off-stage events, including the much-anticipated Tug of War, held at the College Ground from 3.00 pm to 4.00 pm.
‘Kalhaara’ thus became a vibrant celebration of Kerala’s cultural heritage, bringing the college community together in the true spirit of Onam, friendship, sharing and unity.
