KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS

The NCC Army Wing of KAHM Unity Women's College (Autonomous), Manjeri, under 9 (K) Girls Battalion NCC, Calicut, observed Kargil Vijay Diwas on 24 July 2026 to commemorate India's victory in Operation Vijay, honour the courage and supreme sacrifice of the Kargil War heroes, and inspire the spirit of patriotism among cadets. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Shabeer Mon. M, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of History, who highlighted the historical significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas and the valour displayed by the Indian Armed Forces during the Kargil War. Prof. (Dr.) Muhammed Basheer Ummathur, Principal, delivered the presidential address, emphasizing the importance of remembering the nation's brave soldiers and encouraging the cadets to uphold the values of courage, discipline, and selfless service. As part of the observance, a "Tribute to the Heroes" candle-lighting ceremony was held in front of the Administrative Block, during which those present paid homage to the martyrs in remembrance of their supreme sacrifice.
The programme continued with the screening of the patriotic film Shershaah, based on the life of Captain Vikram Batra, PVC, which portrayed the courage, leadership, and ultimate sacrifice of the Kargil War hero and inspired the cadets with the values of patriotism, bravery, and devotion to the nation. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by UO Sreeneha. M (V Sem BSc Mathematics). The programme was coordinated by Lt. Loosiya. KP, Associate NCC Officer, with L/CPL Rishva K. (V Sem BA History) serving as the Student Coordinator. A total of 52 NCC cadets participated in the programme. The observance successfully strengthened the cadets' sense of patriotism, national pride, and respect for the sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces, motivating them to serve the nation with dedication and responsibility.
