Counselling Cell

Jeevani is a comprehensive mental health project implemented by the Department of Collegiate Education, Government of Kerala. Since 2021 college has been appointing a trained Jeevani Psychology Apprentice to provide mental health services in our college. The major purpose of Jeevani Centre of Student Well-being is to ensure early identification and management of mental health issues among college students. It also aims to reduce existing risk factors for mental health issues and to promote health protective behaviors. Jeevani intends to improve awareness and promotion of mental health among college students.

 Addressing age appropriate psychological and social factors are essential in building young people’s lives. It is vital to focus on helping young people to develop the skills necessary for managing their conditions. Attending to the issues of these students is of great importance, as it is the period that paves way to the successful lives of the students.The Jeevani counsellors will be with the students in their journey in college, sharing their joys and sorrows, helping them with their pains. Such a psychosocial help would definitely prove to be of immense benefit to the students. This will be a milestone as far as the state of Kerala is concerned, and this can also be a model for other states in the area of mental health. The main objectives under the project in our campus were:

·         Conducting programmes for creating awareness about mental health

·         Providing Psycho educational classes for enrolled students

·         Counselling of students having psychological issue

·         Early detection of students problem

·         Educational support

·         Jeevani as a collaborator with college NSS, NCC, WWS (Walk with scholar), SSP(Scholar Support Programme).Women cell, Vimukthi etc….

·         Development of Life skill and social skill among college students

 

Jeevani, at KAHM Unity Women’s college, Manjeri started its functioning on August 1, 2023 with a Jeevani Centre, situated at the second floor of block (room number 305). KAHM Unity Women’s college was established in 1991 and is run by Muslim educational and cultural association, situated 1.6 km off  Manjeri- Calicut road, at ‘Koodakkara’. The college is reaccredited by NAAC with B++ grade and is affiliated to university of Calicut. College offers different academic programmes in arts, science and commerce. Total number of students enrolled in the college is 1053 under 10 undergraduate, 7 postgraduate and 2 research programmes. And total faculty strength is 40.
